Terms of Service

1. Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using ChoreGate ("Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

These Terms apply to all users, including parents, guardians, and any other persons who access the Service.

2. Who Can Use ChoreGate

You must be at least 18 years old to create a ChoreGate account. ChoreGate is designed for use by parents and legal guardians. By using the Service, you represent that:

• You are at least 18 years of age
• You are the parent or legal guardian of any child whose device you configure with ChoreGate
• You have the legal right and authority to install software on and manage internet access for those devices
• Your use of the Service complies with all applicable laws in your jurisdiction

3. The Service

ChoreGate provides:

• A mobile app (iOS and Android) for parents to manage chore assignments and internet access
• A VPN-based system (using WireGuard) to control internet access on children's devices
• A web portal allowing children to view and mark chores as complete
• Push notifications to parents regarding chore completion and lock events

3.1 Parental Responsibility

ChoreGate is a parental aid, not a substitute for parenting. You are solely responsible for:

• Setting appropriate chores for your children
• The decisions you make about when to lock or unlock internet access
• Ensuring your use of ChoreGate complies with applicable laws regarding minors and internet access in your jurisdiction
• Maintaining open communication with your children about ChoreGate's use in your household

3.2 VPN and Network Access

ChoreGate uses a WireGuard VPN tunnel installed on your child's device. By using the Service:

• You consent to installing a VPN profile on devices you own or are legally authorized to manage
• You acknowledge that ChoreGate controls internet routing on configured devices
• You understand that the VPN does not filter or log website content — it only controls whether internet traffic is allowed

4. Subscriptions and Payments

4.1 Subscription Tiers

ChoreGate is a paid service offered in three tiers, each available at a monthly or discounted annual price. Subscriptions are managed and billed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store according to their respective terms and billing policies. Pricing as of the date of this document:

• Solo — $4.99/month or $39/year. One child, manual lock and unlock, 30-day chore history.
• Family — $7.99/month or $59/year. Up to three children, scheduled lock and unlock, allowance and credits, full chore history.
• Household — $9.99/month or $79/year. Unlimited children, co-parent access, approval mode, per-child schedules, and all features above.

4.2 Free Trial

New accounts are offered a fourteen (14) day free trial of the Family tier. The free trial does not require a credit card or other payment method up front. At the end of the trial period, the account will not be charged automatically; you must select a tier and complete payment to continue using paid features. Trial accounts that do not convert remain accessible in a limited capacity until removed.

4.3 Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple or Google according to their respective policies. We do not process refunds directly. Contact Apple Support or Google Play Support to request a refund.

4.4 Price Changes

We may change subscription pricing for any tier with at least thirty (30) days' notice delivered through the app, email, or this Terms page. Price changes will not affect your current billing period — any change takes effect at your next renewal.

4.5 Tier Changes

You may upgrade or downgrade between tiers at any time. Upgrades take effect immediately and you will be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the current billing period. Downgrades take effect at your next renewal date.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use ChoreGate to:

• Monitor, surveil, or control any person's internet access without their knowledge and without legal authority to do so
• Install the VPN on devices you do not own or are not legally authorized to manage
• Attempt to reverse engineer, hack, or circumvent any security features of the Service
• Use the Service in a way that violates any applicable law or regulation
• Harass, abuse, or harm any person, including your children
• Resell or sublicense access to the Service

6. Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password. Notify us immediately at ryan@choregate.io if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

7. Availability and Uptime

We strive for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, outages, or circumstances beyond our control. We are not liable for damages resulting from service interruptions.

If the ChoreGate servers are unreachable, the VPN will still function but internet lock/unlock commands will not be processed until connectivity is restored.

8. Intellectual Property

ChoreGate and all associated content, logos, and software are owned by ChoreGate, LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without our written permission.

You retain ownership of any data you provide (chore names, child profiles, etc.). You grant us a limited license to store and process that data to provide the Service.

9. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT:

• The Service will be error-free or uninterrupted
• Children will not find ways to circumvent internet restrictions
• The Service is appropriate for all family situations or jurisdictions

ChoreGate is a tool to assist parents — it is not a guaranteed solution to screen time management.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CHOREGATE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING LOSS OF DATA, REVENUE, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 3 months prior to the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold ChoreGate harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any rights of another party.

12. Termination

You may terminate your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account in the app. We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms.

Upon termination, your access to the Service ends and your data will be deleted per our Privacy Policy.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the American Arbitration Association rules, unless prohibited by applicable law.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated via push notification and/or email. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
